The First Minister attended the first General Assembly on Saturday (20 May) – the supreme court of the Church of Scotland. It is the highest court of the Church in which cases can be heard in matters of litigation.
The Church of Scotland meets for a week in late spring every year, usually in Edinburgh. Saturday was a state occasion opened by Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal – the Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

The theme of this year’s General Assembly is ‘Word of Life’, which celebrates the Church of Scotland’s Christian community and the contribution it makes within Scotland and the wider world.
