First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said:
“My thoughts are with all those affected by this senseless attack in Nice and my heartfelt condolences also go to all of those who have been caught up in this horrifying act of violence. I have spoken this morning to Emmanuel Cocher the French Consul General in Edinburgh. I told him that Scotland stands in sadness and solidarity with France, a country that has already had to bear more than any should be expected to, and we stand ready to offer whatever assistance we can.
“The Scottish Government is closely monitoring the situation and we are in regular contact with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Police Scotland. Our counter terrorism arrangements are robust, but I would echo Police Scotland’s advice to remain vigilant and alert.”
