The First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has sent her best wishes to Muslim communities across Scotland as they celebrate Islamic New Year. She said:
The Islamic New Year, at the beginning of the month of Muharram, is a time of fasting and reflection and also a month of remembrance for some of our Muslim communities.
I am thankful for all that Muslim people in Scotland continue to bring to our society and continue to value the contribution made by Scotland’s Muslim communities.
I wish everyone across Scotland’s Muslim communities a happy and peaceful New Year period – as well as for the months to come.”
