First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has sent best wishes to everyone celebrating the Islamic New Year. She said:
On this first day of the month of Muharram, I send my warmest wishes to Scotland’s Muslim communities who are marking Islamic New Year.
“Muharram is a time for remembrance and reflection and also a time to look towards new beginnings.
“The Scottish Government deeply values the contribution our Muslim communities make as we continue to work together to build a safer, stronger and fairer Scotland. I hope everyone in our Muslim communities has a happy and peaceful New Hijri Year.”
