First day of US trip

The First Minister undertook a series of engagements in California on the first day of her trade and investment trip to the United States.

First up was a meeting with the Governor of California Jerry Brown at the State Capitol Building in Sacramento. A joint agreement was signed committing the two administrations to work together to tackle climate change.

The First Minister then visited Tesla in Silicon Valley to discuss the importance of energy storage technology to Scotland’s wider energy strategy.

The First Minister also met Apple CEO Tim Cook to discuss Scotland’s strengths in digital health and precision medicine.

She then took part in a roundtable discussion with angel investors led by Investing Women to help connect Scottish female entrepreneurs to US investors and vice versa.

On Tuesday the First Minister will speak at Stanford University on Scotland’s Place in the World.
