The First Minister delivered a speech at the annual conference of the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) in Crieff.
‘A fairer and more prosperous Scotland’
She told councils they are an essential partner in creating a fairer and more prosperous Scotland and said the working relationship between national and local government was important.

She also said all political parties must do more to encourage more women into politics.
The need to empower communities, encourage public participation and build on the huge political engagement in Scotland following the referendum was also on the agenda. The First Minister said:
“The political debate in Scotland is more engaged and passionate than it has been for decades.
“People are interested – when they know that they have a genuine say in an issue which matters, they will get involved. They want to be part of the decisions that affect their lives.”
